Hi Everyone,
I have joined up on this board to let you all know about a YL only operation we are organising from the Falkland Islands in Jan 2009. There are still a couple of places left if anyone would like to join in. We are set up on Echolink under my husband's call VP8LP (it comes under the UK section) or you will probably find him spotted lots on the DX cluster if you want to catch up on HF.
Thanks to Victoria SV2KBS for her enthusiasm on this expedition.
Hope to hear from a few of you soon.

Hi Mariana,
Nice if you can make it - nice to see some younger folk showing an interest. We have about 10 possible people at the moment (you are included), but not all have confirmed yet.
Best, Janet
PS. Bob VP8LP is on Echolink whenever he is in the shack, so call him and we can talk to you. Note VP8 comes up under the UK listing.

I also have to book my tickets, it will be my very first journey outside of Europe and I am looking forward to it !!
Above this I would like to ask other YLs that are coming with if they would be interested to have a tour somewhere else in South America before or after VP8 activity.
I would love that
Happy DXing Victoria SV2KBS

Hi Victoria,
Our original plan, if people were using the RAF flight via Ascension Island, was to arrange things so they could stop off there and operate with ZD8, but the majority of people are likely to travel via Chile as it will be cheaper. I do have some saltmine contacts on ZD8.
Bob got his callsign to operate from there when we passed through in August, but we hadn't arranged things in advance and he couldn't get access to an antenna in the short space of time we were there... nothing we can't arrange in advance though! Bob has VP8LP, ZD8LP and ZD7LP - all these locations could do with a YL operation... future plans hehehe!

Hi Janet !
Well in both cases the fleet expenses will more or less the same. I wonder what is the luggage allowance using the RAF flight.
Anyway, a possible operation from ZD9 sounds really promising, let alone exciting, I would be in, if I knew where could I operate from, where to stay, where to erect the antennae.. is there anybody there that could help ?
Apart from this I would definitely change my fleet itinerary for this ZD9 scenario.
Looking forward to hear for more !

Hi Victoria,
Unfortunately not ZD9!!! I go to ZD7 and ZD8 for my work, and the flight from UK transits ZD8 Ascension Island on the way to the Falklands. Tristan da Chuna ZD9 is very hard to get to hi hi.
Maybe this could be a separate event, otherwise it makes the whole thing over too long a period. This would also be a complication if you were wanting to operate with Mariana after the Falklands event as there is no route from Ascension to South America (only via here or UK).
Anyway, the possibility is there, lets see what develops.

Hehehe ! That was a typo indeed ! ;D But you understood what I meant Of course this scenarion would require extra funds and time.. But we can keep it in our mind, for sure. Above this, I really liked what you said "Maybe this could be a separate event" I just love the prospectives for the future ! ;D It's very good that many YLs responded and that there is space for any other that would like to join in ! So.. keep in touch and it's great that you can post the news here, since the other interested YLs can keep track of the updates. A bunch of 33 es 88 ! de Victoria SV2KBS/LA7VPA

VP8 - YL update.
We have 8 YLs confirmed, 1 not confirmed for the operation. Due to a couple of YLs having to pull out of the trip there are a couple of vacancies for anyone if they so wish.
If anyone is interested, drop us a line.
