I agree with Maureen. I am also not technically-minded. Even in the world of Amateur Radio, everyone's favorites are different: DXing, contesting, DIY rigs or antnna, or just listening. No matter what you like, just like Maureen said, The most important thing about operating is be good-mannered and considerate to others on the Bands!!!

I agree Katie, if everyone sticks to been kind and considerate then we can't go far wrong. I agree !! I havent come across any rude people as of yet. Everyone I have spoken with over the airwaves have been really nice.
For me I found that the General Class(equivalent to your Intermediate) wasn't as difficult as I thought. the Extra class will take more study as it is has alot more math and equations I was actually the one who convinced Dave to actually go for it. Ever since I knew him in 1980 he has always listened to shortwave and always wanted to get licensed but never did, I was used to him listening all the time he had a few qsl cards from Amatuer Radio Operators, finally (years later) I started looking into it, I said how hard could it be, so we both decided to go for it. I am proud to say I scored 100% on my tests I really wanted to learn and know.
I met and married Den in '83 he was a keen cb'er in them days and we had a cb radio for a couple of years but he had always wanted to do the Radio Amateurs License but felt it might be harder than expected. A friend convinced him that with the knowledge he had he would pass no probs so he arranged to do the course and signed me up for it too. He convinced me that I should do it and could pass it no probs too, so here we are M3's...hope those licenses come quick so we know what are callsigns will be...bet you get fed up of me saying that bit...lol I couldn't tell you how much I passed by because they refused to tell us our scores. We all kept badgering but they said they weren't allowed to and wouldn't but what they did say was that we all passed with good marks and no one passed by skin of their teeth so I was happy at that Jackie, I will be behind you all the way while you are doing your intermediate and will be keeping my fingers crossed but I have a good feeling that you will pass!

Congratulations!! That’s fabulous new – well done!
So what does this allow you to use? I’m not too sure of the different levels of licensing and the restrictions in other countries.
In UK there are currently three licenses that you can take.
Foundation – (M3???) Limited to 10w, allowed on all bands except 10m Intermediate – (2E0???) Limited to 50w, allowed on all bands (this is where I am) Advanced – (M0???) Limited to 400w!!, allowed on all bands.
I do hope to take my advanced one day, but I’m sure that anyone on here who has taken the advanced exam will confirm that it’s quite a step up in difficulty from the intermediate.
Again, well done on passing the exam :-)

I see that I've been a member for a year but never posted , partly because I can't see how to post or change threads. i'm really clumsy on this board. Where do you get those avatars? and i can update my profile but that's about it. Is there much chatter going on? I don't see much for a 100+ membership. is it always so quiet?

For the Avatars go to: Profile Modify Profile Avatar: if you click on the arrow you will see several pre-made avatars that you can chose from or you can upload your own photo. then click Modify Profile
