Hello to all . Well the radio bug has finally been resurrected thanks to G8DZC Trish. Recently purchased a Yaesu FT-8900R Quad Band radio. Still trying to get used to all the buttons , My, how technology has come on since first licensed in 1983 . It has now been installed c/w mobile hands free mic. So hope to chat to more radio Amateurs. If conditions are good who knows maybe able to get across the " pond " on 10m. Looking forward to chatting to others and also attending Radio rallies this year. A big THANK YOU goes out to Trish 73's Geoff

Aww Geoff ... Don't blame me! I heard you talking to my friend in Weybridge the other day.. Of course his signals with his 40 odd element array was booming through to me.. You were just about readable at times.. I think that you were on your way to Picketts Lock.... I don't know if you have programmed up your radio yet.. I am using Ham Radio Deluxe under Windows XP (it won't work with Linux/Ubuntu) and I used it to program up all the memories.. Very easy to do with that... I run ARCSII on Linux for normal operations with the rig... Ohh! .. I should say that this is with my new toy.. The Kenwood TS 2000 ... Brilliant piece of kit... I am going to hang onto my Yaesu FT 726R just in case the main rig goes down.. I am waiting for the weather to improve, before I set about improving the aerial situation.. That will include replacing the tri band co linear with another one that is larger.. Putting up a T2FD for H.F.. That will be in addition to my long wire on the CG 3000 (more on my troubles with that and RF in the shack later)... In the meantime.. I am still getting the home sorted out.. Laying carpet, painting and keeping my Tonkinese cat happy... He is always around when I have wire in my hands.. It makes doing things with Coax or any wire rather difficult.. He grabs it at every available moment.. Thank heavens that I don't knit.. Anyway Geoff.. Keep us informed of your exploits with the rig.. I'm sure that others will be interested in what you do.. Trish

Hi Trish, Was of to Brimstone in Enfield. Wow what an array of aerials that guy has stacked 4. I was wondering how you was getting on with the new radio. Hope you didn't get stuck with all the snow . I went off to the radio rally on Sunday with a shopping list and was disappointed as only 2 main stalls were there Moonraker and W & S . Was looking at a half wave wire aerial 51ft long ,I cant think of the name at present. I might have to get along to Martin's shop. Having been snowed in today, have spent some time looking at computer control software on the web and leads to go with it. I wonder if anyone else on this site can recommend any software. Here is a question for all in the uk, There used to be a radio rally in Derbyshire I wonder if it still takes place. Take care all 73's Geoff G6 YLD

Wow what an array of aerials that guy has stacked 4. I was wondering how you was getting on with the new radio. Yes he does have a good station.. When I was younger. I used to chat for hours with his xyl on 2 meters.. As for the TS 2000 .. It is now all set and working well.. I even managed to fry my ADSL modem with it (that RF in the shack problem)... So I really must put in my RF choke system.. I have them all built up, and all I need is some warm(ish) weather.. Was looking at a half wave wire aerial 51ft long ,I cant think of the name at present. Sounds like a half size G5RV to me Having been snowed in today, have spent some time looking at computer control software on the web and leads to go with it. I wonder if anyone else on this site can recommend any software. Not using any Yaesu modern radios. I cannot really help.. I do recall that I sent you a link on something a while back.. I gather that G4HFQ has software that he sells that works with your rig.. Here is a question for all in the uk, There used to be a radio rally in Derbyshire I wonder if it still takes place. Hmmm.. I seem to recall a rally that was held up there.. I don't know if it is still on.. Rallies have been slowly decreasing over the years.. My usual trek to the Longleat rally, was something I did for over twenty years.. Then the people who ran Longleat, decided they didn't want to know radio people.. Kempton park is a popular rally that people come from far and wide. The next date for that is April 19th.. Trish
