I'm still a new ham, just a bit over 10 years licensed and have about 50 years worth of practical knowledge to learn.

I got my General Class license in 1971 while serving in the U.S. Navy overseas at the NSGA (Naval Security Group Activity) in Bremerhaven, Germany. It's hard to believe that so many years have gone by since then. I've had several call signs over the years due to moving around so much: WB2PMD, DA1CW, N1DEO and N2IGB. Unfortunately, I have never obtained my Advanced/Extra.

Hi Angela, I guess that both of us are old timers .. I was Licenced way back in 1971. But long before that I had a keen interest in radio.. And it started out with the help of the late Harry Mead, VK4DHM. Who was known as G3OXI when he was in the UK.. He helped me with all the technical stuff and in fact got me my first job at Peto Scott, which was part of the Philips group.. Harry went to Australia and set up a successful communications business.. Later on he became involved in DXpeditions and went around the islands He was a very active member and supporter of the Oceania DX Group and to this day I miss him.. I took my RAE which was at that time a written paper.. Failed once.. I didn't go onto do the morse code. I was too busy with professional studies to do that, and my real interest was the challenge of VHF and UHF at that time.. So .. Here I am .. Thirty seven odd years later, and still keen.. Sorry ... I have waffled on again.. I could talk about all sorts of things surrounding electronics.. I am still learning.. Trish P.S - I don't understand the new licencing callsigns.. That is a sign of age.

Hi Trish and all,
Trish; you win: '77. We were almost neighbours: Newbury Berks. Hm, just realised I have the same pic on the Nadars members page. Jacqueline and I are now living in the Netherlands, she is M3OWL since 2002 and due to the move has had no opportunity to go for Intermediate.
The house we are in now, we bought in 2006, but antennas is still one of the things to do. My Packet Radio BBS is running with the LAP antenna in the attic.
