Greetings to All from Rochester, NY! My name is Cliff and my call sign is N2IGB. I've been a ham since 1971 and a Shortwave Radio Listener since 1964. My current rig is an ICOM 745 and the antenna is a home brewed multi-band dipole. Earlier this year (2008), in an attempt to help rejuvenate interest in the hobby, I started a new service where SWL'ers in the United States can get a unique call sign for their monitoring station. (Free!) If any forum members are interested, or know an aspiring SWL'er, please visit www.swlcallsigns.us

Hi Everyone My names Philip, I have been inactive for a few years. Mostly I am known for starting the RAF Waddington club and teaching the RAE to lots of folk from Lincolshire. So as you guessed I am ex RAF Engineer.
I am just about to buy a new HF set and try and get an old FT290 repaired.
I am married to Helen, loads of kids and six grandchildren. Currently serving as minister of St Johns Church Wideopen Newcastle upon Tyne.
Interests always involve soldering irons and field events.
God Bless
Philip Gray

Hello Geoff and greetings. Glad that I stirred you to get back into it,, Nice to see you here and thank you for the talk through GB3RD recently. As you may have realised. I am still using the 1.75Khz toneburst. That will change shortly when the FT726R has a ctcss card fitted.. I see you mention a SG257 .. I haven't heard about that unit. I have heard about the SGC SG 237.. Anyway.. Yes this site has some good information on it.. And I would like to thank the site owner for keeping this site going... Ohh.. While I'm here.. Can I buy a mug? Sorry Geoff.. Usual trick of hijacking things.. Trish

Hello Trish, Thanks for informing me about the Tuner yes typed wrong number in, it is SG237. It was great to chat on GB3RD but driving conditions were not very good. Had a good look at other radio's today at W & S at Hockley and found a very impressive Icom Transceiver. IC-E2820 with D-STAR. I wonder if you or anyone on this site has heard of D-STAR ? What opinions other's have on this new digital system. 73's Geoff
