Hi,
Has anyone tried a cobweb antenna before? My OM is thinking of getting one because we are just using a G5RV and have limited success with one.
Due to limited space and not wanting to bother with the whole planning permission thing we were thinking of a cobweb. Just wondered if anyone had any success with one?

Don't know much about Cobweb antennas.
We have antenna restrictions here where we live.
We have a G5RV (in the attic) A 4BTV gorund mounted antenna A home brew Sloper

Steve did get a cobweb in the end. He has mentioned that he is getting some really good results with it. We had a G5RV up but as Steve does have quite a bit of space in his garden he decided on the cobweb. Although they don't really take up much room at all, they are much smaller than most antenna's. I think they just need to be as high as possible for best results. Yeah, those restrictions can be a pain, have restrictions here too

Yeah, those restrictions can be a pain, have restrictions here too I know we are very challanged, we cannot have a tower, we can not have a beqam (unless it is hidden in the attic) the sloper goes from the top of our roof to the fence in the back yard, dave(My husband) used grey wire so it is less noticable. I think it is a total of 65 feet (19.812 meters ). I always thought the G5RV did good until well got the BTV! we were looking into a Flag pole antenna but our yard it on a hill so the BTV isnt very noticable and it is within the village guidelines

Den has just bought a Cobweb Antenna today from Ebay. He has heard such good reports about them and he felt that it would suit our lack of garden space situation quite nicely. I will let you know how we get on with it when it's here and up! Zo

We have a very small garden, too. We find a trapped dipole (by G2DYM) very good for 40m and 80m.

Thats great Maureen, I listen on both 40m and 80m and we do get good reception from most of UK, we do get lots of stations from abroad coming in with varying conditions but at the moment only working 10w so I am not sure if any of them can hear us. We bought another antenna not long ago but there was a problem with the assembly and Den has had an offer from a friend to buy it and see if he can do something with it so thats not too bad...can't wait for this cobweb to arrive

The Cobwebb that Den bought from Ebay arrived today He's had to order some poles and things so that we can put the cobwebb and the 2mtr dipole up on the same rig-up. Those should be here in next 2 or 3 days and then a neighbour has offered to drill the holes and help Den get it up....Its going up on the back of the house...and the reception on the 2mtr dipole should also improve with it going up higher too....He ordered and paid for another Yaesu VX-150 too so if either of us are going out we can monitor each others journeys and sort of be there.
