Hi Zo, was just looking at my friends website (Nigel, M0NJW) and noticed that he worked both yourself and hubby when he was activating Pen-y-ghent on the 4th of March. Mentioned this to Steve and he said that if you aren't doing anything around lunch time on New years day have a listen out for him. He'll be shouting CQ Sota on 145.500. He won't be on Pen-y-ghent though, the crazy man is just climbing Englands highest mountain, Scarfell Pike, in God knows what conditions (can you tell that he worries me sick when he does things like this ). Talk to you soon. 33's Jackie

Well, despite the storms and gale force winds Steve has decided that he is still going up Scafell Pike tomorrow. So anyone who is reading this (guests etc) if you are close enough to the lakes to hear please listen out for him, as I am sure that he will want to get those contacts as quickly as possible.
Assuming that he makes it up the mountain and doesn't get blown off!

Hi Jackie, I was listening out for Steve but couldn't hear him We were having lots of hailstorming going on hear on and off though so that may not have helped. Did he get up the Summit and successfully activate it? I hope so and hope he got up with little problems.

Since he was on 2meters I stood no chance of hearing him over here.

He did sucessfully activate it Zo. The weather wasn't good so it was a quick 5 contacts on the handheld and straight back down. He said that it was the hardest thing ever done and won't be doing it again anytime soon. If you go to his homepage and click on the Diary / photo's 2007 for more details. www.m0jti.piczo.com33's

I am really pleased that Steve managed the activation despite the weather The photo's are excellent Jackie and although he said he won't be doing it again anytime soon I hope he still continues with the SOTA. Congratulations to Steve once again.

Hi Zo! Steve's legs were back to normal after about 4 days ;D He'll definitely be wanting to do more SOTA, I think he isn't in any rush to do Scafell Pike again though You live by Pendle hill don't you? How hard would you say that one is?

Hi Jackie, That would depend on which side you are approaching from. If approaching from the nick of Pendle, which is the road over the Right Hand Side of the hill if coming to it via the A59. Steve would park his car on the road and with the help of a map locate the path to the trigg. That I think is the easier route. The other two ways up the hill are from Barley. You can either park the car in the car park in Barley and walk up the road to the path which leads to the hill or you can opt to drive the car up to the side of the hill and park up on the road. Then the two options are to either go up the stairs to the trigg or vear off to the left and follow the old donkey track up to the top and then at the top go left and follow the path to the trigg point. I think the stairs are the hardest option. We went up that way last April on the SOTA Fun Day. A month or two later I went up the path to the left which I felt was slightly easier but neither of the latter two are a doddle but I should imagine a lot easier than Scafel. Hope that helps Jackie.

That does help, thanks Zo!
In the summer we will hopefully do a couple of SOTA together while my mum babysits Daniel and also maybe a couple of easy hills with Daniel in his baby carrier. Not sure if Penle Hill would be suitable with Daniel, maybe one to do on our own.
If we do decide to go up, I will let you know when and if you aren't busy we could have a chat.

;DThat will be awesome if you two can do SOTA together if you do let me kow what bands/frequencies I will listen for you as long as it isnt on 2 meters ( where there is no chance) I stil have a chance of hearing you and making contact.
I did have a contact with a man who was doing SOTA on Orkney Island...so it is possible. ;D

Yeah for the Orkney Island SOTA contact Renae Thats superb! and being as we are going back to Orkney in July with radio and antenna in tow then perhaps we may be able sort something out for a band and frequency to call on Jackie Pendle Hill is a brilliant SOTA Contact Spot for us especially on 2mtrs because it is literally facing us in the distance with nothing in the way Let us know when you hope to Activate the Hill and I will have the radio on!!!
