Just wondered if anyone had a particular day that they would prefer for a net. At the moment the only day that I can't really do is Thursday. Once I am back at work, Friday, Saturday or Sunday would probably be best for me. But I will try to accomodate

Hi Jackie
I can manage most days in daytime hours, being a so-called lady of leisure! Evenings vary - February and March my evenings go all haywire as I have to Inspections on 12 Squadrons (one is in Berwick 62 miles away!) and they all meet on different nights. I can be out on 1, 2 or even 3 nights in one week. I'm out the first Wednesday and Thursday of every month, however, I can try to fit in whenever possible. As long as it is not on 20m - the beam is still not repaired and with the recent winds and gales forecast again I've no idea when we'll be able to get it down to repair it!

Ok, so how about 40m?? Can everyone do that?
I'm not sure how feasible it would be to have a net that covers all members so maybe a 40m for UK and Europe and 17m or 15m for USA?? I usually have most luck with USA on 17m.
What does everyone think?

That sounds good I have heard UK on 17 and 20 meters. dont know that we would be able to contact anyone from U.S on 80 or 40 meters, I did hear guys from the UK on 80 meters but didn't attempt to make contcat so I am not sure if we can get our signal out there or not. right now our 80 meter antenna isnt resonant on all areas of the band but we are still willing to try 80meters (or 40 meters ).

Hi Jackie
80 or 40m for me unless conditions are exceptionally good and I can work 20m on the trapped dipole! for inter-G 40m is best during the early part of the day and 80m comes in late afternoon and evening. Europe could be OK on 40m in evening but the G stations might not hear each other. there used to be a european YL net on thursdays in the early evening on 20m and I could only hear the Italian and Greek stations which was awkward because the net control was in Scotland!! It was still good fun. I think it will be spring before we can work on the beam for anything other than 40 and 80m. I'll have a go, though!!

I usually have most luck with USA on 17m. What does everyone think? YAY for 17m, band seemed dead and I heard a faint CW signal on there, nothing else and could only hear one side of the faint QSO. As feverishly as the op was working, based on what I thought I heard, I just couldn't imagine why NH6R (Illinois station) was drawing such an apparent pile up and I sure couldn't figure out why I could only hear him. Then, the next time he called CQ, I realized it was NH6P and not NH6R..... hand shaking I immediately through out my call, 100w on 17m into an 80m dipole up 30'. The immediate response was "KU4?" so I threw my call out again, "KU4MY de NH6P 55n 55n BK", on the next over the op calls me Tom (obviously running QRZ or something, I am really not that famous). I thanked them (The Big Island 6m Club) for slowing down and giving me my first CW contact to Hawaii and wished them a happy holiday season..... I am walking on air this evening, I can tell ya and, you can bet I was at the post office 10 minutes after my contact! So again I say YAY for 17m and yes Jackie, 17m is usually super into the UK, hope to work you soon (oh, and yes, I do have a microphone too ) 73 de Tom

I still haven't gotten Hawaii ( or Alaska yet) Hubby got Hawaii, last year(9/23/05) with nh6i on 14.226 ( I was sleeping at the time ). he got Alaska in May (5/3/06) on 14.245 ( wl7sj) of course ours were voice not CW. I agree the bands arent so hot right now. dead as can be. But I am willing to try any bands.

Well done on your Hawaii contact Tom! ;D I must admit the bands have been DEAD for the last few days. I just got my BYLARA newsletter so thought I would listen out for their 80m net last night, but I couldn't hear anyone. Actually couldn't hear anyone at all on 40 or 80m last night. So I switched antenna over to the beam and tuned into 17m and swung the beam state side - Nothing!! So, we'll get a date set for a net soon, I am guessing that we should maybe get Xmas and the new year out of the way and then try and get something regular going. Would it be best for everyone else after Xmas and new year? I don't seem to have too much free time until then

I also won't have much in the way of time before Xmas and New Year Jackie...I can imagine most member's will be busy some way or another too...so perhaps a good idea to leave it until after New Year...
