If you are intimidated to get out on the air, just tune around and listen, I find that helps!

Hi Emily!
Welcome!
Watch the board for info on when we are having a 'net' on Echolink. Lin makes it a 'private' session so only those on the Net can hear us - a great confidence-booster!

Hello and welcome to the group and to amateur radio Emily. I can understand you may be too scared to go on the air but honestly everyone will be nice to you and just remember, on the other end of the mic or key is another human being like you!
Have fun in this great hobby Emily.

Hello Emily,
Welcome to the hobby and welcome to Ladies on the Air. The ladies have all given great advise already, but we do all understand what you are going through. I was sat with the mic in my hand for about an hour before I dared to talk to someone. And once I did my face was bright red with nerves!
Luckily it does get a little easier with every QSO. Maybe arrange to meet up with some of the ladies from here, knowing that they are a bit nervous too would probably help and you can help each other along.
Take care, speak to you again soon.

Hi 'Littlemiss'!
You can register on Echolink as well as you have a valid callsign - that is all you need! It takes a few days but go to the Echolink website and find out about it. either that or one of the others who has registered recently will keep you right. the system has changed slightly since I first registered.
Look forward to hearing you

"Little Miss" You can use Echolink, you have to get your callsign validated as Maureen says, visit www.echolink.org - you can then use the same program/computer as your partner just change the Setup options in the "Tools" Menu. You can't have 2 computers running Echolink but you can alternate users on 1 machine as I have described. The whole system is fussy about IP numbers! It does work, my OM and I do it here. All the best, Lin

Hi Emily,
When I set up and registered with echolink, it took about 2 days for them to validate my callsign...I didn't get the email until the next day asking me to send my validation certificate because I wasn't signed into my email account...however I sent it as soon as I saw it and I think by the evening they had validated my callsign so not too bad really time wise.....Validation process was me scanning in my licence document...and sending it as an attachment to the person who requested the validation....Hope it goes smoothly for you and the program itself is simple to install which you do before you can validate your callsign. I suspect if you have been a Radio Amateur for quite some time then your callsign may be validated more quickly...not sure on that one...Anyways enjoy!
