Hello, I have just read that in the OFCOM poll they found only 5% of amateurs are women and this is pretty much what Bylara said years ago so nothing has changed. I have been Licenced since the 1980s and I joined Bylara, that was in the days when there were lots of rallies, lots of people and a Bylara stand at most. I used to meet up with all the other YLs and there were always lots of us an d I remember we all dressed in our best then. Then the men started getting at me because I had Bylara with my other clubs on my QSL card and my husband decided n ot to become an amateur because there were no men only clubs. I had to go QRT 5 years ago because I was getting keyed over and jammed and even my call pirated on CW - they would not dare on SSB as I am a woman. I assume the pirates were men, no woman would do that as I believe we women have a code, never hurt a fellow woman or something like that. I came back on the air for a short time about a year ago but then it started again so I am QRT. All the male friends some from FOC, FISTS etc who used to protect and sked me are Silent Key and I am too scared to go back on my radio. Anyway I have new a QTH now and nowhere to hide my antennas. If I join could I tell you my callsign privately and use an alias on here please? I hope you won't mind my comments on my reply on another thread about the colour? I am really screwing up my eyes to read it but if it's only me and everyone else likes it I will put up and shut up! 33s and 73s to the men

PS I have just been reading the new member profiles and I am afraid that I am one of those BOFs that someone refers to. I can beat a lot of men on CW and computing skills and I make all my own antennas and have my own soldering iron. I have found the only way I could get on in this hobby was to try and be like them b ut I found that the men always wanted to try and pout me right and assumed that because I am a woman I am not technical. I have a background in Law and Teaching and have done Server train ing for fun! and I am a really tough woman but I am soft and hurt too and like clothes, perfume etc. and regarding BOFs I really am quite old. I am very well known in CW circles and on the web and when you hear my call, if I let on, you will say "oh her" and maybe it's best I don't join cos I am a talkative power freak who tends to dominate people. If you want to take the risk I might join.

Please please join, it would be such a shame to let that minority of nasty people put you off. You don't need to give any call sign at all and can use any name you like You will need a valid email address but you can hide that from the general public, the only people who can see hidden email addresses are me and the two moderators. you seem to have lots of experience and I feel that you would be a great assett to this board. I hope eventually to maybe start some nets going for YL's and we have also been talking about going on Echolink for a chat. I think I have been lucky, everyone male and female at my local radio club have been very supportive. I haven't had any bad comments at all. Actually I was suprised when I read a comment from a man on this forum stating that he thinks there are too many female only clubs! That's the first time I had ever heard anything negative. So at least we know that most men love for women to be on the air, I guess that explains the pile ups everytime we go on air! But I know there are the minority who think that it should be a mans hobby and women shouldn't be allowed to play radio. Well hopefully clubs like this will let them know that we won't let the minority ruin a hobby that we enjoy. Hope to speak to you again. 33's Jackie PS, also if you join you can send private messages between members and you don't even have to post on the board.

Hello Jackie and thanks for your message. I probably will join and with my callsign and thank you very much. Angie is my real name and if anyone guesses who I am I promise to own up. Maybe provide you with a little fun and a clue a day until someone guesses? I will post Angie until then. Yes I do have lots of experience having been Licenced over 18 years and a SWL before that. I used to do lots of CW contesting and sit up half the night dxing but as I got older the yawns got earlier! Catch you later, just had the plumber and it's put me behind qwith some jobs. A washer went on thge ballc*ck or something and the loo was pouring water into the pan all the time and flushing on its own every few minutes. It was quite funny really. 33s from Angie G?

Hi Angie!
You'll recognise me and I could make an educated guess about your identity but I won't, Hi! I have just left BYLARA after a number of years - nothing to do with the male/female thing, I just don't like some of the things that have been happening recently. Unfortunately there are and always will be some OM's who will try to spoil it for us but there also those who spoil it for everyone, not just the YL's so don't let them put you off. I have not been on much over the last year but mainly because of other committments and a 'sick rig'! I am trying to find time to get back on again now that I have a replacement radio but as our beam antenna is still damaged I cannot get on 20m. Do join us - your knowledge and experience will be invaluable to the newer and younger licencees and aspiring ones! After all, we need to encourage more people, male or female, into the hobby!
Look forward to seeing more from you soon.
Maureen, G0VRT

I do not belong to any woman's clubs or groups. I belong to a local Amatuer Radio club and there are a few women in the club. Hope you join this forum, you can use any name you wish and do not have divluge any personal information or call sign.

Jackie and Renae
I have to admit that the only time I have experienced any problems on air have been when we have been running a YL Net, which is silly really because OM's were welcome to join in as well. When I was operating regularly I took part in the Islands of Scotland Award and all the OM's on that were real gentlemen when we called in. If we were struggling in a pile-up they would often tell the guy running things that there was a YL trying to get in! The bias is directed at all sorts of people - as in everything in life so let's ignore it and enjoy out hobby!
Cheers to all both YL's and OM's!

Hello Jackie,
I am really enjoying this ;D hope you don't mind? It is helping to cheer me in the after fighting a Planning Application(the locals lost)and other stuff that is worrying me.
Yes I think Maureen knows who I am and I think we may have met a rally or had QSO or even belong to the same club - you in FISTS or RAFARS Maureen?
If no one guesses by thre weekend I will give out some final big clues then I will let on OK!
Off to do some autumn photography now, it's a lovely day here in the Shires.
Have a nice day and catch you later.

Hi Angie!
This is fun! My first guess was wrong I think! The Angie I had in mind had an earlier callsign, presuming I've picked up the clue correctly. I could cheat and go up into the loft and look out the old BYLARA records, but it is more fun this way. I don't know about us having a QSO as I've never used my CW on air - coward, I know! But yes, I was a RAFARS member, no 3679! Anyway, why worry - if we are cheering you up we have achieved something good, Hi!
Here's to the next clue!

Hi Angie, I have no clue what your call sign is. I am not a member of Bylara as I am in the US, Not a memeber of any Ladies Groups, I have only had my General Class license for 9 months (2/05) just recently we put up decent HF antennas. My husband is way better at antenna and mods, I helped with the coil on our 160m antenna (that was my contibution) I am the only female (check in) for most of the nets I have checked into, all of the men have been really nice toward me. I hope you do join you expirence with antennas and the technical stuff wil lbe a great asset.

Hi Angie, I am really really new to the world of Radio Amateurs and haven't got a clue as to your identity. I personally don't have any problems with you being a member and I am sure we could all learn lots of things from you. I must admitt that CW does put me off but that isnt' to say that I wouldn't decide in the future to take up morse and transmitt it if I got good enough, in my own opinion that is...lol I hope you do join and look forward to you doing so 73's M3LHI - Zo still proud that I passed only last week!

M3LHI de G0???
Zo I wanted to congratulate you by the way and welcome to Amateur Radio. I can still remember the thrill when my first G1 callsign came in 1986. I was on 2m SSB in minutes working a G3 fairly locally with a beal stuck in my lawn! In those days we had to have a variation to use CW with Class B Licences and I got one right away and I still have my first QSO all written down in inch high letters!
Another YL to the hobby, Welcome and again Well Done Zo
