UK Lifetime Licence Comes Into Force Fri 1st December 2006The new Lifetime Licence is scheduled to be launched on Friday 1 December 2006. The Radio Licensing Centre in Bristol stopped issuing licences on the 22 November but continued to handle enquiries following an initial contractual misunderstanding that resulted in all enquiry lines being closed. A number of Radio Licensing Centre staff are being seconded to Ofcom® for a temporary period to handle the inevitable increase in enquiries after the launch date. It is understood that while the new Terms and Conditions will apply to all licensees from 1 December, it is planned to send out over 60,000 paper copies over the next few months. These licences will then remain valid for an initial period of five years or until personal circumstances such as address changes need to be notified. Ofcom ® has advised the RSGB® that it is not intending to send out licence reminders when the five year period is drawing to a close and the responsibility will lie with the licensee to notify Ofcom that the details held on record are correct. The RSGB® however are hoping to come to an agreement with Ofcom to enable the Society to offer a reminder service to their members.thought i would let others know about this ladies Gordon MM3XGP®

I don't even know if we get notices before license expires. I do know here in the U.S. they last for 10 years. I know that much.

Thanks for that Gordon. I was actually wondering about that. I carried on paying for my M3 callsign and I got a new license that would take me up to December or something. I guess that once this is in place, I will get another license for my M3 and my 2E0.
Seems like a good idea to me. I know that there were lots of worries about details such as addresses been kept up to date, but it is a condition of our license that we notify them of any change, and it always has been so I guess that will stay the same.
Thanks Renae for letting us know what the US does. It sounds like the UK is just coming in to line with other countries.

At last! there's been talk about it for long enough!
My only worry is that in my 'Senior Moments' days I'll lose track of when my renewal is due! I don't keep a 5-year diary - I'll need to find some other way to remind myself, and the OM when our renewals are due. Any bright ideas folks?

Ofcom UK Lifetime Licence Update The new eagerly awaited Lifetime Licence was launched on Friday 1st December 2006. The Radio Licensing Centre in Bristol stopped issuing licences on the 22nd November but continued to handle enquiries following an initial contractual misunderstanding that resulted in all enquiry lines being closed.
A number of RLC staff are being seconded to Ofcom for a temporary period to handle the inevitable increase in enquiries after the launch date. It has now been clarified that the new Terms and Conditions will only apply to those licensees in possession of the new document but it is planned to send out over 60,000 paper copies over the coming few months. Until this document is received licensees should still operate under the terms of their existing BR68.
Licensees wishing to operate under the new Terms and Conditions and who have not received the new document should register on the Ofcom website at www.ofcom.org.uk/licensing/olc/ This should allow the download of the new licence once your password has been received through the postal service. These licences will then remain valid for an initial period of 5 years or until personal circumstances such as address changes need to be notified
LINK FOR ONLINE REGISTRATION IS www.ofcom.org.uk/radiocomms/ifi/licensing/classes/amateur/ hope this helps ladies

I'm just about to register myself. Maureen, I meant to answer you the other day but my computer went a bit wonky I know that if I put my license away in a drawer that there is no way that I would remember when I need to confirm my details with OFCOM. What I plan to do is put the license in a frame and on my shack wall. At least that way it will be in front of me all the time and I am more likely to see it and remember
