I have copied Trevor's post from QRZ and posted it here..... this is a disgrace! UK Radio Amateurs Problems with Council OfficialsThere's a link to the TV news report about a visually impaired Radio Amateurs problems with UK local council officials at Blind radio amateur's plight featured on tv news www.southgatearc.org/news/june2007/blind_amateur_tv_story.htm It's well worth watching. The original newspaper story 'I will live in a very quiet world' can be seen at www.southgatearc.org/news/may2007/redditch_asbo.htm As can be seen from the TV video his antennas can't be more than 30 feet above ground. Local officals wish to restrict his antennas to just 20 feet above ground !!! 73 Trevor M5AKA

It is ridiculous !! If I was him and the antennas have been up there for the past 15 years,.they would stay where they are.It probably new neighbours that have moved in near him and causing the trouble ,or a new official at the local council wanting to try and impress his boss,...they should have better things to do,..like get there act together on the refuge that is gathering in every ones gardens at this time because the council only now removes this every 2 weeks and a stock pile is over loading peoples gardens which is a darn site more obtrusive than 2 antennas.!!

That is sooooo wrong! Although having dealt with our local city council recently myself it unfortunately doesn't surprise me.

In the US we have this, which sounds impressive, but can be useless all the same..... details here: www.arrl.org/FandES/field/regulations/antenna-restrictions.htmlRead carefully though, because if you purchase a home where there is a homeowners associations or specific covenants and restrictions going in to the contract you are well, pretty well stuck without a leg to stand on. Be careful where you buy or rent and know what you are getting in to before signing anything. Most people are careful, but when it comes to a hobby, it is often not thought of when house hunting for that great new place. Even where there are restrictions, there is very often stealth projects that can compensate for or at least allow some hobby participation. They don't take the place of a 25 meter tall tower, but, can keep you on the air. Attic, under the eave and flag pole antennas are just a few examples. My concern is when there are zoning or sudden rule and law changes. It's hard for me to believe that most of these ordinances and laws are not written as 'no additional' rather than 'immediately remove for now and ever more'. For many of the old dears, this is their last remaining connection to the outside world besides telly and the news paper. Taking this away from them in their final days or years is unthinkable and is as I see it, a slap in the face to what life in the free world is all about. Now if you are unfortunate enough to live next to where that new airport is going in, or some other such horrific event, sure, I understand a 150' antenna as an end of the runway obstruction is completely unacceptable. In that case and a very few others, I understand the ordinance change, however, these are specific safety related rather than 'eye sore' issues. Food for thought on this side of the Atlantic, now that HDTV is finally getting somewhere and someone has invested $2,000 to $3,000 in television equipment, as most HDTV signals are available by air rather than cable at the moment. I wonder who will be brave enough to enforce the aerial restrictions and covenants upon the masses who will be decorating their chimneys and rooftops now? Makes ya wunda, dun it?

I think the same thing...my guess is NO one will "enforce" those restrictions/covenants.....it will most likly be said " But they have the right to watch TV"

Let's just say there's more to this chap and his problems than meets the eye.
My OH and some local club members went to see him to help - but it's not as straightforward as the report makes it out to be.
They also made contact with the local council and RSGB.
Also, there has been no ASBO granted.
They decided to leave it to him to sort out, he's got it covered with RSGB/Council.
Don't believe everything you read in the press!
