Hi Everyone, Just thought I would mention that last night after the exam we had a presentation given by one of the club members on the use of Nodes. It was very interesting and both me and hubby are hoping to have ago at using this form of radio communication via the internet. Here is the link to the website that has all the info and Node codes on the subject etc, www.irlp.net/You don't have to have a pc connected up for Nodes to be able to use these node codes on your transceivers. All you need to know is your local node code and know how to enter the code on your tranceiver. You also need to check in your tranceiver handbook as to whether or not your model is able to use DTMF Operation. Hope some of you find this useful info. Zo

Hi Dave, Thanks for your Congrat's from both me n Hubby Is Echolink similar to IRLP? bit naive yet where radio is concerned but hope to get there. I was wondering if it had something to do with the repeaters that are dotted around the world. Any info I can get will surely come in handy. Here's hoping those callsigns come through quick....can't be quick enough for me now...lol Thanks again Dave and will listen out for you on the airwaves! Zo

Congrats to you both, Zo!
Echolink is not a substitute for the real thing but is very useful when propagation is poor and you want to keep in touch with other Radio amateurs (sorry, I detest the word 'ham'!). You do need a callsign though to use it. Look forward to meeting up with you 'on air'.

My husband G8PWE is part of the GB3DX Online Repeater Group - he deals with the RF side and G4LCH the VOIP etc - we have just been discussing that it would be excellent idea to get an Echolink Room for YL's - so much so that I am looking in to it at the moment, I'll keep the group posted how I get on. Who's interested in this? Lin G6HZI

Hi Lin,
I don't currently have access to a radio for the great majority of time, but once I have I would be really interested.
If you set up a YL room, then yes, please keep me updated.

Hi Lin!
Good idea! Jackie, you can download Echolink from the web and use it with your PC and a mike - radio not required!!! All you need to register with Echolink is a VALID Callsign!
So what are we waiting for gals?

I dont know anything about Echo-link I do have a microphone for my pc though. Go to www.echolink.org. It explains all about it and you can download the prog from there. On alternate Wednesday evenings you'll find some of the Canadian, New Zealand and British YL's on at about 2100 utc. I can't remeber the exact time - unfortunately I keep missing them as I seem to have lots of Meetings to go to on Wednesdays and I lose track of which night they are going to be on! Look out for Audrey, VE1PK and Minnie VE3DBQ.

I went and had a check and a read up last night and found it really interesting. I wonder how long it takes for them to be able to check my callsign validity? I know from reading on the site that they can check the USA Callsigns pretty quickly but think I have to send photocopy of my License. Wonder if that can be done via internet or will it have to be snail mail?
Linda,
That sounds like a brilliant idea. I know I was really impressed with IRLP and Echolink so would be interested in joining a forum for YL's......Hope you can get it off the ground!

No problems, I've been in touch with K1RFD who "is" Echolink and we're getting it sorted out - should be able to be up and running shortly.
Thanks for the interest.

Hi Zo!
It doesn't take long at all - they have access to International Callbooks so can check up fairly quickly - no need to send them a copy of your licence or anything! It did take me a bit of working out at first because nI did my usual thing og jumping in without reading all the instructions first but the other ladies kept me right. It'll be great to actually be able to chat to you all - I look forward to it - then you'll all realise just how craxy I can be!!!!!!
