Hello and thanks for letting me join Jackie. I really enjoyed my little wind up but I realised that unless you were into CW you would not guess my call, also I have been off the air for the best part of the past five years.
I took the December RAE in 1986 at the City and Guilds HQ in London and passed first time which shocked me and everyone as I taught myself. IU had been a SWL for two years and could read slow morse. I was active in SWL SSB and CW contests. I held the call G1XEO for about 7 weeks and passed my morse test and got the call of G0HGA.
I was very active with a QRP rig on loan from my local club and because it and my next rig only had CW my speed qwuickly went up. I also had a 2m rig which could only go on 144.000 to 144.400 so I was mostly CW on there too and was very active in contests and tropo DX.
Just one year after getting my Licence I became a member of the High Speed Club of Germany which requires 25wpm with five sponsors at 30mins each. I am also a member of FISTS, AGCW/DL, HACWG, the former UQRQC which was sponsor QSOs at 40wpm SM-HSC with 40wpm certificate and was a member of RAFARS. I also belong to the RSGB and Chiltern DX club. I was at one time being considered for FOC but I think I upset them with my too fast CW but it is my dearest wish to eventually be invited to join.
I am very interested in computers and have done some professional training even though I am retired. I worked in Law and then trained to be a school music teacher. I used to play Viola in a local Symphony Orchestra and at one time I could play the piano quite well but my biggest asset was my high soprano voice, now more mezzo due to being in my sixties. My other interests are classical music, art, digital photography, conservation and cats.
I run my own Yahoo Group, did have four and also run a board for radio amateurs who like computers.
I am very pleased to be a member at last ;D
