Clara 40th Anniversary Challenge
Canadian Ladies Amateur Radio Association (Clara) will be 40 years old (young) in 2007! To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of Clara, a challenge to all YLs and OMs: Work 40 YLs (any YLs, not just CLARA members) on amateur radio between January 1st 2007 and December 31st 2007. Categories:
CW or Phone HF, VHF (includes repeaters), Digital (including Echolink, IRLP, RTTY, PSK31, etc.), or Mixed modes if you have used more than one to get your 40 contacts.
Contacts can be made on nets, but net operation should not be disrupted - courtesy should always be of prime concern so that the fine name of Clara is not besmirched. If a net is busy, stations should QSY to make the contact, or make contact after the net has ended. Net Control Stations of Clara or other nets can count check-ins as contacts, provided they get all the information needed.
Logs should include date of contact, name and call sign of the YL operator, and band or mode. Signal reports are not needed.
Cost of the certificate in Canada, including postage is $5.00. For DX stations the cost is $5.00 US.
Deadline for submission of the logs: March 1st 2008. Talk it up so we can get lots of YLs on the air! Submit logs to Kathy VE3GYL on paper or electronically.
Kathy VE3GYL : Kathy Steels VE3GYL 444 Jellicoe Crescent London, Ontario N6K 2M5
Kathy will set up a special email address for logs - watch this space!

Hi Folks!
I am a CLARA Member but not sure if that will get you extra points or not! to get some of the Canadian YL's on Echolink join in on every 2nd Wednesday at 2100 (I think!). I keep losing track of which Wednesday they are on so I just run up Echolink whenever I remember on a Wednesday eveining and hope to catch them! Maybe we could work out a system of letting each other know when there are YL's on whatever mode we happen to be using so others can have the chance of the same contacts!

That really does sound interesting. As yet I haven't actually taken part in a contest but am thinking about it when life at home gets a little quieter...

This one is a good start Zo because it runs all year and you don't need to get involved in pile-ups, etc.! Less stressful but just as much fun!

I was involved with CLARA about 12 years ago now. I was a member for about 5 years but when I went off to college I couldn't afford to keep my membership up but I still keep in touch with Cathy at the york region hamfest and any of the other hamfests I see her at. This challenge sounds like fun. I look forward to talking to a few of you on the air if I get my radio back up and working. The radio shack is in a bit of a disaster zone so to speak so I need to get it looking decent before I get the radio set back up.
Is anyone participating in GOTA on the weekend of the 16th of February? I believe that's the weekend it is this year?
I'm involved with it through the local club in my hometown so we'll be on the air all day on the Saturday.

I am not participating but will listen out for you and see if I can make the contact.

Hi VA3BSD, I think that's Newfoundland? I'm too lazy to go and look up my prefix list, Hi! If you have Echolink on your PC you can count YL contacts on there. I know quite a few of the ZL and VK ladies are on at about midnight our time! A few of the UK YL's are also looking for contacts on Echolink. I'm a CLARA Member sponsored by Audrey, VE1PK.

Hi thanks. I'll pass the info on to the ham who is organizing GOTA this year I normally help out but haven't organized it in about 10 years because of other time constraints. The callsign we'll be operating under is ve3nsr for those who will be listening on the air and I'll pass the bit on about echolink.
I'm actually in Ontario Maureen but I know prefixes can get confusing I find too.
